Geosynthetic Clay Liner – the "Bentonite liner" in mining works

Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL)-also known as Geosynthetic Clay Barrier (GBR-C)-is a needle-punched reinforced composite material composed of a high-expansion powdered sodium bentonite core that combines two durable geotextile outer layers, geotextiles They are fixed together by needle punching, stitching or chemical adhesives. A uniform, multi-directional, shear-resistant hydraulic barrier with self-sealing and re-healing properties is formed.

Due to the excellent pad of GCL, it has become an alternative to compacted clay pads in mining applications. In order to prevent root penetration; increase resistance to drying; bentonite pipe resistance under high water gradient; lower penetration rate; hinder ion exchange and gas barrier. Especially in the presence of corrosive liquids that may affect the properties of bentonite, by adding an extruded polymer coating to the needle punched GCL, it is suitable for more mining applications.

In mining, geosynthetic clay lining is usually used together with geomembrane to provide reliable, efficient, and long-term lining performance to improve economy and environmental performance.
