Cellular confinement systems(CCS), also known as geotechnical units, are widely used in construction, erosion control, soil stabilization on flat surfaces and steep slopes, access protection, and structural reinforcement for load support and soil conservation. The geosynthetics made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) strips welded with UV Stabilized ultrasonic wave are expanded in the field to form honeycomb structures and filled with loose materials such as soil, sand, soil, gravel, rock, gravel or concrete to form structures with strong lateral constraints and high stiffness.


The working principle

When filling compacted soil, the cell confinement system produces a new composite entity with enhanced mechanical and geotechnical properties. When the soil contained in CCS is stressed, such as in the case of tea-carrying support applications, it creates lateral stresses on the outer cell walls. The 3D confinement zone reduces lateral movement of soil particles, while vertical loads on the contained filler lead to high lateral stress and resistance at the cell-soil interface. These increase the shear strength of the enclosed soil, thereby creating a rigid mattress or slab to distribute the load over a wider area. Reduce soft soil punching, improve shear resistance and bearing capacity, reduce deformation.

Shackles from adjacent units provide additional resistance to the upload unit through passive resistance, while lateral expansion of the filler is limited by the high hoop strength. Long-term reinforcement can be achieved by keeping compaction under constraint.

On site, the geopipe sections are fastened together, rotated directly on the subsoil surface or placed on the subsoil surface or placed on a geotextile filter on the roadbed surface, and opened with an external stretcher assembly supported in an accordion-like manner. These sections extend over an area of tens of meters and consist of hundreds of individual pixels, depending on the cross section and pixel size. It is then filled with a variety of filler materials, such as soil, sand, aggregate or recycled material, and compacted using a vibrating compactor. The surface layer is usually asphalt or unbonded gravel material.

● CCS cell sizes range from 330mm to 660mm.

● CCS is usually made of textured or structured polymer plates to increase frictional resistance to the filled soil.

● CCS is usually perforated.

● On steep slopes, CCS may consist of a steel bar passing through the central area of the slope and anchoring to or within the concrete base to resist degraded sliding of the system.

● Backfilling is labor intensive work through the use of pneumatic trebuchet or stone trebuchet construction equipment.
