Use of Geosynthetic materials in solid waste landfill design

Use of Geosynthetic materials in solid waste landfill design

Geosynthetics are most commonly used in solid waste landfills to protect surface water and groundwater, because they have multiple functions, excellent hydraulic performance, easy installation and cost saving . The geosynthetics used in the landfill site include non-woven geotextile, woven geotextile, geogrid, geomembrane, geocell, geosynthetic clay liner (GCL), geotextile, geosynthetics, etc. Each type of geosynthetics has specific functions. The geosynthetics system can be used in the landfill for separation, drainage, filtration, hydraulic barrier, gas barrier and protection [1]. Table 1 summarizes the types of geosynthetics and their functions, and Figure 1 illustrates their use in landfills. Geomembrane, GCL, geotextile pipe and geotextile are more commonly used geosynthetics in landfill applications, while geotextile, geotextile and geogrid are less used.
